What is EmDash?

EmDash is a new open-source CMS built by Cloudflare on Astro and TypeScript. It's designed as a modern replacement for WordPress — with sandboxed plugin security, edge deployment, and AI-native workflows. EmForge provides the themes, plugins, and tools that make EmDash production-ready.

Can I migrate my WordPress site?

Yes. Run npx @emforge/migrate --from https://your-site.com and the tool will import all your content, categories, tags, media, SEO data, and generate 301 redirects so you don't lose search rankings. It also detects your WordPress plugins and maps them to EmForge equivalents.

Is EmDash production-ready?

EmDash is in beta (v0.1), backed by Cloudflare ($30B+ company) and endorsed by Joost de Valk (Yoast SEO founder). It's stable enough for blogs, portfolios, and marketing sites. We recommend starting with a new project or migrating a non-critical site first.

Why not just use WordPress?

WordPress is 23 years old. It runs on PHP, 96% of its security vulnerabilities come from plugins, it requires caching layers for acceptable performance, and its developer experience hasn't evolved for the AI era. EmDash fixes all of these problems with modern architecture.

Do I need to know TypeScript?

Not for basic use. The Forge theme works out of the box and the admin UI handles content management. If you want to customize themes or build plugins, TypeScript knowledge helps — but AI coding tools like Claude Code can do most of the work for you.

What if EmDash doesn't take off?

All EmForge code is MIT-licensed — you own it completely. The skills you learn (TypeScript, Astro, Cloudflare Workers) are transferable to any modern web project. And the Forge theme works as a standalone Astro site even without EmDash.
